Amikor az emberek meglátnak egy komondort, az első fejükben felbukkanó kérdések közt szerepel, hogy „nem túl nehéz gondozni a bundáját”? A válaszom: nem annyira. Bár, amikor Hófehérke kiszaladt egy nyuszi után a szőlősbe, amely nincs gyomirtózva, –  vagyis elég sok a királydinnye meg muhar benne – akkor eléggé kétségbeestem, hogyan fogom tudni kiszedni azt a millió szúrós vagy ragadós holmit a szőréből. Szerencsére Bajkó Erika és csapata segített megoldani a helyzetet, előre megbeszélt időpontunk volt másnapra a kozmetikába.  De alapból azért egy normál udvaron tartott komondornál ez kevésbé fordul elő.

When people see a Komondor, one of the first thought is „is it too difficult to care the dog’s coat?”. My reply: not so much. Although once Snow White ran out chasing a bunny into the vine yard, where we didn’t use  herbicides – so it was full with puncture vine and bristle grass – I was desperate how  I could  take the millions of spiky or sticky stuff out of her hair. Fortunately Erika Bajkó and her team helped me to solve this situation, we had made an appointment for the next day. But normally this problem is less like to happen with a komondor living in an average backyard.

Akinek először van komondor kutyája az kihez fordulhat a szőrgondozással kapcsolatban? Elsősorban a tenyésztőhöz, de mivel ő általában messze van, illetve ha a gyakorlatban is  látni szeretné a saját kutyáján a gondozás lépéseit, akkor a kutyakozmetikushoz. (Ezúton is köszönöm Erikának, rengeteget tanultam tőle a kutyákról!)

A person who has a komondor for the first time to whom should he/she turn to in connection with coat care? First of all to the breeder, but since he/she is usually far away or if the owner want to see the care of his/her dog’s coat, then to the dog’s cosmetics. (I thank Erika for this, I learned a lot from you about dogs!)

Ha kozmetikushoz fordulunk, annak ára van. Végeztem egy kis összehasonlítást más fajták esetére is, amennyiben rendszeres ápolásban van a kutyáknak részük. Jelen esetben Bajkó Erika budapesti kozmetikus mester áraival számoltam.

If we go to cosmetics, it costs money. I also made a small comparison with other breeds, as long as they get regular cosmetic care. In this case, I was counting on the basis of Erika Bajkó’s price. She is a cosmetics master operating in Budapest.

Látható, hogy bizony a mai divatos ölebekhez viszonyítva nem drágább egy komondort ápoltan tartani kozmetikus segítségével. A yorki esetében 5. évben már ez a fajta is többe kerül összesítve, mint a komondor. A komondor szőrköntösét az elején kell jól megalapozni, és aztán már csak a fenntartásra kell koncentrálni.

It can be seen that, in comparison to today’s fashionable lap-dogs, having a well-cared komondor is not more expensive . E.g. the cost of a tidy  Yorki, exceeds the komondor’s cosmetic costs from the 5th year. The Komondor’s coat must be underpinned at the beginning, and later we can only focus on maintenance.

Még egy lehetőség, ha nem kívánunk élni a gyönyörű tincsek látványával: a komondor szőre levágható. Ennek vannak előnyei és hátrányai.

One more option for giving up admiring the beautiful cords:  Komondor’s hair can be cut off. It has got advantages and disadvantages as well.

Előnye, hogy könnyebb tisztán tartani, és a kutyának is könnyebb, nincs rajta olyan nagy súly, mint teljes szőrköntössel. Hátránya véleményem szerint az, hogy nem tud olyan jól szellőzni a bőre, hiába gondolják néhányan azt, hogy jobb neki így nyáron, a bőre szabadabban van, ha szalagokba vagy tincsekbe összeállt.

A komondor különleges szőre a védelmezője is, ha kutya támadója akad, az csak a szőrbe tud harapni, amennyiben meghagyjuk. Sérülékenyebb a rövid szőrű kutya.

Az újszülött komondornak még ilyen selymes bundácskája van, olyan, mint a perzsa bunda, hófehérben.

It is an advantage that it is easier to keep it clean and the dog’s coat is lighter, and it does not have as much weight as full cords. It’s a disadvantage that its skin does not breathe so good, though some people think  it is better for the komondor without long cords in summer. As to my opinion his/her skin is more free when the coat formed into cords.

The special hair of the Komondor is also his/her protector. If he is attacked by an other dog, it can only bite the cords. The short-haired dog is more vulnerable.

Newborn komondor has such a silky coat, like a white Persian fur.

Általánosan elmondható, hogy a komondor szőrével úgy kb. 10 hónapos korig nincs sok teendő. Ebben az életkorban azonban elkezdődik a tincsesedés, különösen a füleknél és a dörzsölődős helyeken, farvégen nagyobb tömbökbe állnak össze a szőrvégek, ha nem figyelünk erre időben.  Ezen kívül rendszeresen (legalább havonta egyszer) ellenőrizni  kell a fülüket a befelé növő szőrök miatt és eltávolítani azokat. Ennek elmulasztása komoly fülgyulladást okozhat.

Generally  there is not much to do with the hair of the komondor until the age of 10 months. At this age, however, the thinning of the cords begins, especially at the ears, rump and the rubbing places, the hair may be formed into larger blocks when we do not pay attention in time. In addition, their ears should be regularly checked (at least once a month) in order to remove the inward hair. Lack of ear control may lead to serious infections.

A tappancsoknál növekedő szőr is kivágandó, mert a növekedő szőr nyomja a talppárnát és az ujjakat. A végbélnyílás környékén is érdemes rövidebbre vágni az ott lévő szőrt, így higiénikusabb.

Hair at the paws should be cut off as the growing hair pushes the metacarpal, metatarsal and digital pads . The hair around the anus should be cut off too, it is more hygienic.

Minden életkorban figyeljük oda a kutya bundájára (is), egy toklász, vagy kullancs súlyos egészségügyi problémákat okozhat.

Még egy fontos dolog, amit meg kell említeni: a külső-belső élősködők elleni védelem fontossága. A tenyésztőnek már a kiskutya két hetes korában el kell kezdenie a féreghajtást, majd rendszeresen, kéthetente el kell végeznie. Ennek elmulasztása esetén a kiskutya szőre fénytelenné, borzassá válik, teste vékony marad. Ezek árulkudó jelek jövendő kedvencünk kiválasztásakor. Ideális esetben a kiskutyának ahány hetes, annyi kilogramnak kell lennie. A kutya felnőtt korában negyedévente érdemes védekezni a belekben élősködő parazitákkal szemben, illetve félévente elvégzett szívféreg teszt, adott esetben megmentheti a kutyánk életét.

We should take care of (the dog and) his/her coat at any age, because an awn of the foxtail barley or ticks may cause serious health problems.

Another important thing we must mention is the importance of protection against external and internal parasites. The breeder has to start this procedure at the age of two weeks of the puppy and  has to do it every two weeks. Lack of the treatment results that the puppy’s hair becomes matte, ruffled and its body remains thin. These are important cautionary signs when choosing your next puppy. Ideally, the puppy should be as many kilograms as his/her age. Adult dogs  should be protected against intestine parasites quarterly, and tested against  heartworm twice a year. In any particular case you may save your dog’s life.

Külső élősködők esetén a bolha és a kullancs ellen kell védekezni. Előbbi felelős többek között az ekcéma és különböző bőrgyulladások, utóbbi a babéziózis és a Lyme-kór kialakulásáért.

In the case of external parasites, the flea and the tick must be mentioned, protection against them is essential. The former is responsible, inter alia,  for  eczema and various dermatitis , the latter causes Babesiosis and Lyme disease.
